Tribute by the Jewish Comunity of Vienna - Torberg Medal

We are very proud to be honored by the Jewish community. We will be awarded the Torberg Medal on February 17th 2010. Here is some information on it:

The Jewish Communitis of Vienna has been rewarding the Torberg Medal since 2000 to people who have stiven for exemplary humanity and solidarity, truth and human dignity. The Friedrich-Torberg- Medal honors the memory of one of the brightes autors, a great humanist and battlesome and sometimes even controversial fighter against Nazism, Communism and totalitarian ideas.
It is also a memorial to the murdered Jewish world, which was a formative part of the city. The Friedrich-Torberg-Medal is rewarded to personailtities, who have been fighting for a lively democracy in Austria and who have fought against the rise of the dark sides of the past and against forgetting.

Yad Vashem - January 2010

During our visit to Israel in August 2009 we were given the assurance that Laa an der Thaya wil be engraved in the Valley of Communities. Magdalena Müllner had applied for that 10 years ago. This special way of rememberance is - due to place reasons - only given to bigger or important Jewish communities that were erased during the Holocaust.
Now you can see the first pictures of the engravings. We will make a commorative ceremony there on August 19th 2010.
